Aerial Yoga Training in London – Bringing Aerial Yoga to The Gambia

Aerial Yoga Gambia

A Journey to Healing and Relaxation

– with Alina Jaber –

In summer 2025, my yoga journey expanded in a completely new and beautiful direction when I completed my Aerial Yoga Training in London.

I have been teaching yoga since 2018, after completing my original Yoga Teacher Training in Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. Over the years I have taught many styles of yoga, but discovering aerial yoga opened a completely new dimension of movement, creativity and relaxation.

Today I am excited to offer aerial yoga classes in Kololi Beach Resort in The Gambia on a beautiful oceanfront aerial yoga deck, as well as aerial yoga workshops during my retreats.
This new chapter began with a simple discovery on Instagram.

Discovering Aerial Yoga

In summer 2025, while preparing for my trip to London, I discovered the Instagram profile of a Ukrainian aerial yoga teacher. I was instantly fascinated.

The movements looked incredibly fluid, feminine and graceful, while also showing strength and creativity. The aerial hammock created shapes and transitions that felt almost like dancing in the air.

I especially loved seeing how naturally inversions flowed in aerial yoga, something that can feel challenging in traditional mat yoga.

From that moment, I knew I wanted to experience aerial yoga myself.

My First Aerial Yoga Experience

When I arrived in London, I booked my first private aerial yoga class.

Practicing in a hammock suspended outdoors under the trees felt incredibly peaceful and calming.
From the first session, I felt supported and safe inside the hammock, which allowed my body to relax in a completely new way.

The sensation of being gently held by the fabric created a feeling of lightness and freedom that I had never experienced before in yoga.

It was immediately clear to me that aerial yoga was something special.

Aerial Yoga Training in London

After my first experience, I felt inspired to learn more and decided to continue with aerial yoga training in London.

The training allowed me to explore:

  • Aerial yoga flows
  • Supported stretches
  • Inversions
  • Strength building
  • Relaxation techniques
  • Safe use of the hammock

I especially loved the creativity of aerial yoga and the way it combines strength and softness at the same time.

It felt like a beautiful balance between yoga, movement and playfulness.

The Benefits of Aerial Yoga

One of the most unique aspects of aerial yoga is the way the hammock supports the body.

This allows for:

  • Gentle spinal decompression
  • Deep stretching
  • Improved flexibility
  • Better posture
  • Relaxation of the nervous system

The hammock also makes inversions more accessible and comfortable, allowing students to experience poses in a new and supported way.

Many people find aerial yoga both energising and deeply relaxing at the same time.

Is Aerial Yoga Suitable for Beginners?

Aerial yoga is suitable for complete beginners as well as experienced yoga practitioners.

The hammock supports the body, making many poses more accessible than in traditional mat yoga. Students can move at their own pace and choose how deeply they want to explore each pose.

No previous aerial yoga experience is required, and every class includes guidance on how to use the hammock safely and comfortably.

Many first-time students are surprised by how relaxed and supported they feel during their first aerial yoga session.

Building an Oceanfront Aerial Yoga Deck

After returning to The Gambia, I felt inspired to share aerial yoga with my students and retreat guests.
We began working on creating a dedicated aerial yoga space at Kololi Beach Resort.

After several months of planning and building, the oceanfront aerial yoga deck was completed.
Practicing aerial yoga here is a unique experience.

The hammocks move gently with the ocean breeze while the sound of the waves creates a naturally calming atmosphere.

It is a peaceful and inspiring environment for yoga practice.

Today I offer:

All sessions take place on the oceanfront aerial yoga deck at Kololi Beach Resort in The Gambia.

Students love aerial yoga because it is:

  • Fun and different
  • Relaxing
  • Accessible for beginners
  • A new experience
  • Great for stretching the spine
  • Enjoyable and playful

Many people say aerial yoga becomes one of the highlights of their visit.

Aerial Yoga at My Oceanfront Retreats

Because aerial yoga has become such an important part of my own practice, I have now included aerial yoga workshops in all of my oceanfront yoga retreats.

Aerial yoga adds a unique element to the retreat experience and allows students to explore movement in a new way.

Relaxing in the hammock while listening to the ocean is an experience that many students remember long after the retreat ends.

A New Chapter in My Yoga Journey

Discovering aerial yoga in London opened a new chapter in my yoga journey.

It brought creativity, lightness and inspiration into my practice and teaching.

From training in London to teaching above the ocean in The Gambia, aerial yoga has become one of the most exciting parts of my work as a yoga teacher.

I look forward to sharing this beautiful practice with many more students in the future.
