In February 2023, I embarked on a transformative journey to Gambia, seeking solace and rejuvenation at the serene Kololi Beach Resort. Our intimate group of seven individuals gathered for a holistic experience that blended yoga, cultural exploration, and self-discovery. Mornings commenced with refreshing yoga sessions amid the rising sun, setting the tone for the day’s activities. Followed by team breakfasts, fostering blossoming conversations and deeper connections among participants.
Each day was a canvas of personal exploration, relaxation, and immersion in Gambia’s vibrant culture. Some explored the bustling Serekunda market and others luxuriated in therapeutic beach massages, foot treatments, and local wellness experiences. Evenings were dedicated to soothing yin yoga and meditation sessions, providing moments for reflexion, as the sun descended below the horizon.
The retreat extended beyond the resort, embracing the beauty of Gambia. A thrilling 4-wheel drive excursion led us to local school, tribal village, an eco-village, and the secluded shores of Sanyang the Paradise Beach. We also indulged in authentic Gambian home cooking experience with Ida, fostering cultural immersion through flavourful experience.
Our commitment to the local community extended to charitable deeds, supporting local schools and widowed women in the local villages. Some ventured further, exploring Senegal’s Fathala Safari and its diverse wildlife. Weekends were a blend of relaxation and exploration, visiting Paradise Beach Club.
My retreat in Gambia was more than just a journey; it was a tapestry woven with experiences, connections, and personal growth. It was a harmonious blend of self-care, cultural immersion, and a celebration of inner and outer beauty.
